Neil Beloufa is featured in this years Artes Mundi. His work got my attention for the way it distorts the images appearing in the film. He puts the tv in plain sight, but has a large frame which has distorting shapes. Beloufa says he wants to make things less serious, so by having the news or political talks showing he distorts their faces to make it more fun and light hearted.
“Beloufa has dedicated himself to exploring precisely this ambiguity of interpretation” – Dylan Kerr
This type of distortion could apply to my own practice as I have been criticised of having too much beauty in the images.
