Embroidered Portrait

This is a self portrait that I created using materials and sewing. I have placed this in front of a window with thread, I wanted this to hang so that it is a piece that you can interact with, you can see behind it and see through it. The style of the embroidery creates a chaotic feel within the lines of this portrait, contrasting with the blocks of stillness. I included the tattoo on the inner arm because it is text that is personal to me and can show an insight although it is presented in Arabic. The importance of this foreign language is to emphasise the idea of the unknown and not being able to fully understand what that person in the piece is expressing or saying.
